Cloud Atlas

Everything is connected

Line

Blaine: Hugo Weaving's character, Old Georgie in the sixth story is reminding Tom Hanks' character Zachry that he always says "the weak are meat and the strong do eat". And then later in the film when it goes back to 1849, Tom Hanks' other character, Dr. Henry Goose says the same thing. Here's the lines and images of the scenes.

Old Georgie: You say all'a time, yeah? "The weak are meat, the strong do eat”?

Dr. Henry Goose: There is only one rule that binds all people......one governing principle that defines every relationship on God's green earth. "The weak are meat and the strong do eat."

Cloud Atlas Sextet

Blaine: "Cloud Atlas" was in my head a lot during the Summer of 2013 and I listened to the soundtrack a lot on my iPod and laptop. And then one day I'm mowing the lawn and I noticed that The Cloud Atlas Sextet and what the fabricants are singing in 2144.

Blaine: Robert Frobisher writes a music score called "The Cloud Atlas Sextet”.

Blaine: In 1973 Luisa Rey finds a recording of Robert Frobisher's Cloud Atlas

Blaine: And in the year 2144, the fabricants sing Robert Frobisher's Cloud Atlas Sextet.

Slavery

Blaine: Two of the stories I would say involve slavery (1849 and 2144). The fabricants in Neo Seoul are not allowed to have any feelings, thoughts or emotions. They're clones and they are like machines, but they can also be treated miserably sometimes. And some of them feel like they could have a life like Sonmi's friend Yoona-939.

Story into a movie

Blaine: Timothy Cavendish talks about his story being turned into a film.

Timothy Cavendish: When The Ghastly Ordeal of Timothy Cavendish is turned into a film I'm thinking for the role of the hero one part Sir Laurence Olivier with a dash of Michael Caine.

Blaine: In the year 2144 Sonmi watches the movie on Timothy's story played by a Tom Hanks look a like.

House into a nursing home

Blaine: Vyvyan Ayrs house in 1936

Blaine: Then in the year 2012 we see it as a Nursing home
