Blaine: "Sense 8" is a tv series on Netflix created by The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski. It's a Sci-fi drama about eight people around the world who are suddenly linked mentally and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order. They are strangers to each other, but they're able to see, feel, hear and talk to each other as if they are the same person. They can put their consciousness in to each others bodies. As the season goes on, they get to know each other more. When something is going to go down, the other character takes over the body of the character who is in trouble and does the fighting or the acting or the driving. Towards the end of the season, one of them has a vision of her future and what she is feeling in the vision is real, you know she can feel what her future self is feeling.
These are the characters: Capheus, a matatu driver in Nairobi who is trying to earn money to buy AIDS medicine for his mother. Bak Sun, the daughter of a powerful Seoul businessman who spends half of her time thinking about the company and rest being a underground kickboxing star. She goes to prison after taking the blame for her brother's crimes. Nomi Marks, a trans woman hacktivist and blogger living in San Francisco with her girlfriend Amanita, who is the only person who has been on her side until Nomi met the Sensates. Kala Dandekar, a university-educated pharmacist and devout Hindu in Mumbai who is engaged to be married to a man she does not love. Riley Blue, an Iceland DJ living in London who is trying to escape her troubled past. Wolfgang Bogdanow, a Berlin locksmith and safe-cracker who has unresolved issues with his late father and participates in organized crime. Lito Rodriguez, a closeted actor of Basque background living in Mexico City with his secret boyfriend "Hernando". And last, Will Gorski, a Chicago police officer haunted by an unsolved murder from childhood. The characters Will and Riley become love interests to each other after getting to know each other along with the characters Kala and Wolfgang.
Staring Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleston, Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Max Riemelt, Jamie Clayton, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera with Naveen Andrews and Daryl Hannah. I was interested in what was next for The Wachowskis a little while after "Cloud Atlas". And on March 27, 2013 I found out they were developing a new tv series for Netflix called "Sense8". I watched the entire first season during it's opening weekend on Netflix and I was getting into it not just from what was happening on the series, but also how these episodes were made. The editing done by Joe Hobeck and Joseph Jett Sally is impressive, for example on episode three where Sun from South Korea takes over Capheus' body in Nairobi and fights the gangsters for him while she is fighting her opponent in the MMA ring at the same time. The way it will cut back and forth from Sun being in Nairobi to South Korea. They had to do a lot of traveling arrangements for shooting. They shot in nine cities around the globe in eight countries: Chicago, San Francisco, London, Berlin, Seoul, Reykjavik, Mexico City, Nairobi and Mumbai. The thing I like most about the show is how it's characters work together as a team. You get to know them and you see the personal situations they are going through.
The scene that I find the most humorous in the first season is the sex orgy scene in episode six involving four of the main characters and two of the regulars, I mean it was nuts. One of reasons that it is funny is the Will character is doing sit ups and the next thing you know he's starting to get a sexual feeling. I ask myself how the actors felt when they shot that scene. Another one of my favorite scenes is when they're singing the song "What's Up". I can't wait to see what happens next in Season 2, which is set to premiere in 2017. It took two years to wait for this series and now I have to wait another two for the next season, but I trust they'll put a lot into it as they did with the first season. Normally there are multiple writers to write episodes for a tv series, but for "Sense8" The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski wrote all twelve episodes for the first season. Andy and Lana have directed seven episodes (1,2,3,6,9,10 & 12). They must have been very busy people, one with production on their 2015 movie "Jupiter Ascending" and developing this tv series. People The Wachowskis have worked with in the past have collaborated on the show. The music score is done by Tom Tykwer and Johnny Klimek, two of the three composers for "Cloud Atlas". "Cloud Atlas" co-director Tom Tykwer even directed the fourth & eleventh episodes. Their "V for Vendetta" director James McTeigue directed episodes five and seven. Cinematographer John Toll who did the cinematography for "Cloud Atlas" and "Jupiter Ascending". The show had gotten mixed reviews and you know who is to blame?! Critics!!!! And because of that, Netflix was having second thoughts if the show should be renewed or not!! But thankfully they renewed it.
The eight people who are linked together: Capheus (Aml Ammen), Sun (Doona Bae), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Will (Brian J. Smith), Riley (Tuppence Middleton), Kala (Tina Desai), Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) and Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre).
Blaine: Here is a couple of my favorite scenes from episodes three and eight.
