Blue Is the Warmest Color
Running time: 3 hr
French film
Blaine: This is a film based off a graphic novel with the same name by Julie Maroh. Directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. Staring Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos. It's the only movie I've shown interest in about lesbian love. I always like to find certain foreign language films and I used to go on this site called Suicide Blonde and there were a lot of images for Blue is the Warmest Color. I saw so many I decided to look up the film and I found out it was getting red hot reviews. I watched the trailer and then said "This looks like a good and interesting movie, I'll add it to my must see list."
I couldn't see the film in theaters because it was only playing in select theaters, so I had to wait until it was released on blu-ray. Usually I watch the movie first and see if I like it or not before I buy it, but I thought "I have loved the foreign films I've looked up and watched in the past, I bet I'll love Blue is the Warmest Color as well". So I bought it without seeing it first. One month before the film was released on blu-ray, I was on YouTube looking for more interviews on the film and I ended up finding the film itself. I was very surprised because I wasn't expecting the whole movie to be online and one month before it was released and then I got excited and said "Great now I can finally see this movie and see what I think of it." I watched it and I thought it was great.
Plot (Spolier Alert!)
Adele starts off in high school and when she sees this woman with blue hair on the street one day, she can't explain why she can't take her eyes off her. She fantasizes about the blue haired woman one night while she's sleeping. Adele doesn't really know what she wants in her romantic life. When she has sex with a boy, she doesn't show full interest, she doesn't feel anything. It's like deep down she's exploring her sex without even knowing it. When one of her female school friends kisses her, Adele stars to feel something. She gets let down after she finds out her friend doesn't feel the same way Adele feels and because of that she's sad again. Her friend Valentin sees she's looking down and decides to take her to a gay bar. Shortly after Adele sees women outside the bar and decides to follow them. They lead Adele to a lesbian bar were she runs into the girl with blue hair. The woman's name is Emma, a soon to be graduate from Fine Arts. Emma and Adele get to know each other. After that they spend time with each other and become very close.

Emma and Adele stare up into the blue sky while they're on a picnic one day and then Adele kisses Emma and then that's the start of a special relationship. Emma takes Adele to a gay pride parade. Adele grows fascinated as she looks around and sees other lesbian women kissing each other. They dance through the parade along with everyone else. It goes black for 4 seconds after the first hour and 36 min and I think it is now chapter 2.
It's a few years later and Adele and Emma are living together as lovers. Emma moves forward with her career in art. Adele is out of school and is now apart of a teaching staff at a elementary school. Adele will pose for Emma whenever she has to. One night they put on a dinner party for Emma's friends. Adele notices that Emma is having a nice conversation with one of her friends Lise to much. Adele doesn't look very happy because they look like they're flirting with each other and that concerns her. Adele has an affair with a male colleague of her's and Emma finds out. Adele apologies and begs Emma for forgiveness, but Emma doesn't listen because she's full of rage and she kicks Adele out of their apartment.
Years pass after that and Adele is now a kindergarden teacher. She cries a lot because she feels lost without Emma in her life. Adele can't let her go because she's still deeply in love with her. Adele meets up with Emma at a restaurant after not seeing her for 3 years. Emma is now with Lise from the party and they raise a daughter together. Lise was pregnant when she and Adele first met. Adele tells Emma how much she misses her and she doesn't want to be with anyone else. Adele wants Emma back so much she tries to seduce her. Emma admits the relationship she and Adele had was very special, but she has to face the facts that it's over and she's with someone else now. Emma tells Adele she forgives her, but she doesn't love her anymore. Emma let's Adele know however that there's always a place for her in her heart always.
Adele is depressed. Emma says goodbye to Adele and leaves the restaurant. After she leaves Adele breaks into tears. The film concludes with Adele at Emma's art exhibit. Adele walks around the exhibit looking like she really doesn't want to be there. Adele shows a blank look on her face while she sees Lise and Emma kissing each other. The film ends with Adele leaving the exhibit and walking away while she smokes a cigarette.
Blaine: It saddens me that you can't be with the person you really want to be with the most in life. What angers me is Emma has a happy life with someone else while Adele has no one. I felt really, really sorry for Adele. She has such a strong feeling for Emma and yet they can't be together.
